T
he 12th Annual Home and
Garden Tour of Historical
Pleasant Ridge will be held
rain or shine on Saturday, June 4, from
10 a.m.-4 p.m. This year’s event, orga-
nized by the Pleasant Ridge Historical
Commission, features eight beautiful
homes and/or inspiring gardens; several
are incredible recent remodels and new
builds awaiting to go on the market.
“This year is a unique tour for us
in that we have several recently built
and renovated homes that are vacant
and therefore entice realty sales and
give visitors a renewed appreciation for
custom architectural details and a fresh
perspective on imagining interior design
possibilities,” says Don Hoefler, chair-
man of the Pleasant Ridge Historical
Commission.
The tour allows the public to learn
about and leisurely explore the uniquely
different and characteristically historic
properties of the city; as well as the
chance for residents and non-residents
to meet new people, see how the home-
owners live and obtain ideas on decorat-
ing, design and gardening.
“The Pleasant Ridge Home and
Garden Tour is one of the many special
events that take place in our city — an
opportunity for visitors and residents
alike to look beyond the front doors
that hold the key to the diversity of our
community’s fabric,” says Kurt Metzger,
Pleasant Ridge’s mayor. “I want to extend
my appreciation to the residents who
open their homes to the public, the

docents who will be on hand to inform
visitors about the history of the homes,
the members of the Pleasant Ridge
Historical Commission who sponsor the
event, and everyone else who works so
hard to make this event a continued suc-
cess. It is this community spirit that is
the true essence of Pleasant Ridge.”
Proceeds from this year’s event will
be used to perform improvements and
maintenance of the Pleasant Ridge
Historical Museum, also known as the
“Police Booth,” and surrounding gardens.
Additionally, funds will be used to con-
tinue to provide ongoing events such as
the Pleasant Ridge Speaker Series.
Advance-day tickets can be purchased
for $15 online at cityofpleasantridge.
org or in person at the Pleasant Ridge
City Hall on Woodward Avenue (where
tour information is available) or the
Recreation Center located at 4 Ridge
Road during normal operating hours.
Tickets can also be purchased the day
of the tour for $20 directly behind City
Hall from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. For more
information, call (248) 541-2901.

WEST BLOOMFIELD
ranbrook takes
its garden tour
into the virtual
realm with a new free app.
The inclusive Cranbrook
House and Gardens app
offers tours of the gardens,
an interactive map and
visitor info at the touch
of a finger. Accessible on
mobile devices, the app
can be downloaded on the
App Store or Google Play.
A web version of the app
and separate audio tour are also avail-
able.
Designed to enhance the visitor
experience, the Cranbrook House and
Gardens app currently has three distinct
tours of the gardens: a dynamic tour for
general visitors, one for arts and culture
enthusiasts who would like to know
more about the sculptures and other
iconic elements of the gardens, and one
for botanical lovers who would like to
learn more about the exten-
sive plantings. The tours
are complete with engaging
video, historic and current
images, audio and text.
The 40-acre Cranbrook
Gardens is home to formal,
woodland and naturalistic
gardens featuring fountains,
statuary, lakes, streams and
extensive traditional and
naturalist plantings.
Visitors can take the app
with them while enjoying
free admission to Cranbrook Gardens
now through October 2016, as gardens
admission is provided by presenting
sponsor PNC Bank and sponsors All
Seasons Independent Living and Roberts
Restaurant Group. Thanks to the support
of the admissions sponsors, the gardens
now offer longer hours and can be
enjoyed by a larger audience.
