The event began with a special VIP

‘TIME TO CARE’

When Detroit Jews for Justice members
learned that almost half of all private sector
workers don’t receive paid sick leave, they set
an ambitious goal to collect 1,000 signatures
for its Time To Care campaign.
“Jews have a very proud history of leader-
ship in the Labor Movement,” said Detroit Jews
for Justice director Rabbi Alana Alpert.
The group rallied 50 volunteers to circulate
the petition, surpassing its goal in less than
three months. It hosted five educational pro-
grams on Time to Care in partnership with
local Jewish communities, including events at
local synagogues and private homes.

to enjoy its first Scotch
Tasting event, hosted by
William Grant & Sons,
the Balvenie Distillery and
catered by Epic Kosher

The “Scottish feel” extended from the
decor to the charcuterie display, scotch-
tasting demonstration and bagpipe
music.
“We were able to draw people outside
the sphere of typical Akiva supporters,”
said Daniel Khodorkofsky, an Akiva
parent and event chair, who suggested
the event concept. “Attendees brought
business associates, friends, neighbors
and parents to enjoy an elegant evening
