JARC’S SPRINGELATION
TAKES OVER THE ZOO

JARC will presents its 18th annual
SpringElation fundraiser, an all-inclusive
family night at the Detroit Zoo, 6-9 p.m.
Wednesday, June 1.
The private evening at the zoo includes
a picnic dinner by Quality Kosher
Catering and twilight access to many
of the zoo’s popular attractions. New
this year, guests will be able to visit the
33,000-square-foot Penguin Conservation
Center, home to more than 80 penguins.
Children will enjoy activities featuring
a clue hunt with prizes, and music and
dancing by Star Trax. Event chair and
JARC Board Member Joshua Jacobs said,
“It’s all made better by supporting a great
mission.”
SpringElation supports JARC’s services
for people with disabilities, including
autism and developmental delays. JARC
provides neighborhood homes and inde-
pendent living support for adults and
in-home respite by trained caregivers for
children with disabilities.
Tickets cost $25 (children under 2 are
free). Individual sponsorships start at
$100, and corporate sponsorships begin

JEWISH WOMEN’S DAY
OF LEARNING MAY 22

The Jewish Women’s Day of Learning
will take place 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Sunday,
May 22, at the Berman Center for Jewish
Education at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, Southfield. It is sponsored by
Wayne State University’s Cohn-Haddow
Center for Judaic Studies along with
Federation and the Berman Center.
Topics range from historical perspec-
tives to spirituality, social justice needs,
culinary highlights, storytelling, psycho-
logical and social work issues and more.

Amira Soleimani will speak on “Thanks a
lot, Eve: A Reassessment of the Garden of
Eden Punishment.” Also, Jewish educators
will conduct a variety of workshops.

25 TEENS CAN HELP
GIVE AWAY $50,000

What if someone gave a teenager $50,000
and said, “Take this money and use it to
make our community a better place”?
The Jewish Fund is looking for 25 teens
entering grades 10 or 11 this fall who
want to make a difference by learning
about philanthropy and how to make
grants to solve important problems.
At the end of the year, the Jewish Fund
Teen Board members will work together
to grant $50,000 to both Jewish and secu-
lar charities in Metro Detroit.
