style changes.
“When I left the pawn business,
I was 50 pounds overweight,” she
says. “I was unhappy because of it
and I knew I needed to take care of
myself.
“We were in our ninth television
season, and I wasn’t happy toward the
end of the shows and while working
60-70 hours a week. I needed to become
a better wife and be home for my kids,
getting more involved with their school.”
Gold, who had been a meat-and-pota-
toes eater, turned away from red meat and
gave up pop. She took up running and is pre-
paring for a half marathon in October — she
now calls exercise her release. The scales show
a drop of 55 pounds.
“Goodbye, old Ashley; hello, new Ashley,” she
declares.
While telling customers to think “color and sun-
shine” as they select jewelry for the season, Gold
shows the same attitude about taking charge of her
life, which includes participation at Congregation Shir
Shalom in West Bloomfield and special events sponsored
by the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit.
“My ventures tell the world that I don’t give up,” Gold
says. “I’ve always been a really hard worker, and I’m going
to keep going with the idea of never stopping.
“Operating from home has made my life a lot easier. I’m able
to do a lot more now that I’m running my life and have my
independence.
“I tell people not to be afraid to go out and get things they
really want. If they’re not happy now, there’s always a second
chance to be happy — at work or something else. Go out and
get it. I found a happy place.”
