those with kidney disease. Of course, I
always enjoy seeing the animals, too!”
His mom, Debra, is, understandably,
proud of her son. “He is so endearing
and sincere in his efforts, and we are so
happy at the amount of support he has
in the community,” she says. “We were
shocked at the amount of money he
raised but now realize he’s just a hard kid
to say no to!”
This year, the National Kidney
Foundation of Michigan wants to cap-
ture the ranking as the No. 1 Kidney
Walk in the nation, beyond New York.
“We are fully committed to elevating
our programs and services for the one
in nine people in Michigan affected by
kidney disease, and our annual Kidney
Walk at the Detroit Zoo has played a
vital role in making those programs and
services a reality,” said National Kidney
Foundation of Michigan President and
CEO Daniel Carney.
The Kidney Walk also draws attention
to the importance of early detection and
kidney disease prevention.
Festivities at this year’s Kidney Walk
include food, games, prizes, music and
a kidney Champions Tent. Participants
can register onsite on the day of the
walk or online beforehand. Registration
is $25 per person (over the age of 12)
and $10 per child for ages 2-12 and
includes parking, zoo admission and
activities. Kids under the age of 2 are
free. Participants who raise $100 or
more receive a Kidney Walk T-shirt.
Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the
walk kicks off at 8:30 a.m.
