obituaries » Israeli Actress Dies Of Cancer Times of Israel — Award-winning Israeli actress Ronit Elkabetz died April 19 at age 51 following a pro- longed battle with cancer. Her death fol- lowed two years of a career high, as her film Gett: The Trial of Viviane Ronit Elkabetz Amsalem won Israel’s 2014 Ophir Award for best film and was selected as the Israeli entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 87th Academy Awards and nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards in 2015. Elkabetz, a dramatically beautiful woman of Moroccan Jewish origin with a head of jet-black hair, played the main role in the film, which takes place in the rabbinical courts, where she is trying to obtain a religious divorce from her estranged husband. The film will be shown at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15, at the Berman Center for the Performing Arts in West Bloomfield as part of the JCC Lenore Marwil Film Festival (see story on page 37).
