ancy and Alan Simons of West
Bloomfield are thrilled to
announce the engagement of
their daughter Deborah Ellen to Max Phillip
Barack, son of Merle Diamond of Glenview,
Ill., and David Barack of Northfield, Ill.
Deborah graduated from the University
of Michigan with a B.A. in psychology and a
master’s in education. She is an elementary
school teacher at the Chicago Jewish Day
School.
Max graduated from the University of
Michigan with a B.A. in history and then
earned his juris doctor at Chicago-Kent
College of Law. He is a criminal defense attorney in Chicago.
A July wedding is planned at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.

Lake, and Elaine Thomas and Rick
Thomas of Maple Glen, Pa., are
thrilled to announce the engagement of their
children Carolyn Jennifer Sallen and Justin
Shane Thomas.
Carolyn earned her bachelor’s degree at
the University of Michigan and her master’s
degree at the University of Colorado.
Justin earned his bachelor’s degree from
West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
The couple reside in Denver, Colo., and
are employed as high school teachers/coach-
es in the Denver area.
A November wedding is planned in Detroit.

avid and Linda Foster of
West Bloomfield are proud to
announce the upcoming mar-
riage of their son Joshua Foster to Katie
Mintzer, the daughter of Barry and Karen
Mintzer of Cleveland, Ohio.
Josh is a graduate of Columbia University
and the Jewish Theological Seminary and
works as engagement rabbi of B’nai Jeshurun
Congregation in Pepper Pike, Ohio.
Katie is a graduate of the Ohio State
University and is a corporate relationship
manager for United Way.
The couple will reside in Cleveland. A May
2016 wedding is planned.
