Close to 100 young adults and those young-at-heart showed up on March 31, ready to partake of a veggie potluck “fit for a queen” and dance to a DJ. The highlight was a multimedia social jus- tice Purim shpiel about Queen Esther’s effort to drive Shushan “emergency manager” Haman out of town. The gathering included many participants from Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in Detroit and Congregation T’chiyah in Oak Park, which hired Rabbi Alana Alpert last year to direct Detroit Jews for Justice (DJJ) and lead services. Offering education, leadership development, grassroots campaigns, community-building and arts and cul- ture, DJJ is renewing the Jewish ethic of working for social justice. * Thursday April 14th Friday April 15th Saturday April 16th BY BY 248-626-0886 INSIDE ORCHARD MALL @ Orchard Lake Rd. and Maple WEST BLOOMFIELD, MI 48322 Daniel Brickley of Detroit was a Bavarian and Ian Nichols of Ypsilanti, with “Cuban” cigar, was Fidel Castro. 2091040 22 April 7 • 2016
