W

ith an aura of festive collabo-
ration and an appreciation
for the diversity of our local
Jewish community, NEXTGen Detroit,
The Well, Chabad of Greater Downtown
Detroit and Repair the World turned the
city of Detroit upside down (as is tradi-
tion) by joining forces to host a Wild
West-themed Purim celebration at the
new Will Leather Goods store on Second
Avenue in Midtown.
The crowd enjoyed an evening of food
(including barbecue brisket sliders),
drink (including the “Flamin’ Haman”),
live country music by local cover band
Taylor Tucky, the chance to hear the
megillah and to prepare mishloach
manot care packages later delivered
to the Jewish Senior Life Prentis
Apartments in Oak Park.
A photo booth, coffee bar and costume
contest all contributed to the festive nature
of the evening — because sometimes, you
really need to just get down and celebrate
with your partners — yee-haw!

bout 60 people of all
ages attended a Western-
themed Purim party spon-
sored by the Birmingham Jewish
Connection at the Bloomfield Hunt
Club.
Aside from a megillah reading,
the costumed participants enjoyed a
kosher buffet, face painting, making
mishloach manot packages, music
— and pony rides for the younger
set. It didn’t matter that the weather
wasn’t sunny and warm because the
riding arena was indoors.
