Buy Israeli Goods
To Thwart BDS
One strategy StandWithUs uses to coun-
ter the effects of persistent anti-Israel
Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions
(BDS) actions on America’s university
campuses, and in U.S. communities,
is to urge everyone to purchase Israeli
products all year-round.
Passover is another perfect time of
year when you can help strengthen
Israel’s economy when shopping for
foods and gifts for your Passover seder
hosts, family members and friends.
To find local and online stores that
carry Israel’s quality products, search
the item categories at the Michigan link
on the Buy Israel Goods (BIG) website
www.buyisraelgoods.org. Friends and
relatives in other states can find interna-
tional vendors and their local merchants
when searching by state and city listings
linked to the BIG home page.
For information about how you can
help this economy-boosting campaign
for Israel and our supportive American
merchants, contact StandWithUs-
Michigan at standwithusmichigan@
gmail.com.

Not Presented
On Sunday I attended the Jewish
Community Relations Council (JCRC)
sponsored event at Temple Beth El at
which Matt Nosanchuk, White House
liaison to the American Jewish commu-
nity, was interviewed.
In most of that interview, Mr.
Nosanchuk praised the performance of
the Obama administration with regard
to the nuclear deal with Iran, refugee
resettlement, relations with Israel, etc. It
was a repeat of the now-familiar talking
points from the administration.
Recently, this has become typical of
the JCRC events dealing with important
domestic and foreign policy issues —
only the presentation of one side (the
administration’s) without a presenta-
tion of opposing opinions. With regard
to the refugee resettlement issue, his
statements regarding vetting of Middle
East refugees completely contradicted
testimony by FBI Director Comey
and Director of National Intelligence
Clapper.
Mr. Nosanchuk also addressed the
nomination of a justice to replace
Antonin Scalia. To paraphrase, he stated
that it was Obama’s responsibility to
6 March 17 • 2016
nominate a justice and it is irrespon-
sible for the (Republican) Senate not
to quickly have hearings and an up-or-
down vote.
He conveniently forgot to mention
that in 2006, then-Sen. Obama hypo-
critically joined 25 Democrat senators
to filibuster against the Senate vote on
Justice Alito. Obama’s rationale was that
because George W. Bush had “only” 18
months left in his presidency, he should
not make Supreme Court nominations
so late in his term.
In conclusion, events sponsored by
JCRC dealing with national issues have
a history of presenting only one side
of issues. Consequently, the events are
more propaganda than educational.

Condemn Terror Attacks
Larry Wolfe, president of the Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, and
Dr. Richard Krugel, president of the Jewish
Community Relations Council, issued the
following statement on March 10 regarding
recent terror attacks in Israel:
“We are outraged by and strongly
condemn this week’s terror attacks in
Israel which resulted in the death of an
American citizen and the wounding of
more than a dozen innocent Israeli civil-
ians. These stabbings, shootings and car-
rammings have been occurring almost
daily since last autumn, testing the resolve
of the Israeli people and eliciting questions
about the Palestinian Authority as a part-
ner for peace.
“Last week’s stabbing rampage in Jaffa
was particularly shocking. It is alarming

to see Palestinians from the West Bank
and some Israeli Arabs continue to resort
to violence and terror. We condemn such
hateful acts and continue to call for peace.
This terrorism, which is both heartbreak-
ing and senseless, undermines prospects
for peace and the hope for two states for
two peoples.
“We stand with the people of Israel
who continue to struggle against these
reprehensible and unconscionable acts
every day. Our sympathies go out to all the
victims, and we send our condolences to
the victims’ families, including the family
of American Taylor Force, who died as a
result of his wounds.
“We appreciate the statements of Vice
President Joe Biden, who is visiting Israel,
and of the U.S. State Department, both
condemning these attacks. And we note
the mostly absent condemnations by
America’s Arab allies in the region and by
the aforementioned Palestinian Authority.
“The ongoing terrorism being waged
across Israel against innocent Israelis is
intolerable. Over the past 6 months, 34
people have been killed in terrorist attacks
and 390 people have been injured. The
attacks and the seeming lack of world con-
demnation damages the long-term pros-
pects for peace and regional stability. This
terrorism must stop.”

CORRECTION
• The story “JCC Gets New Captain”
(March 10, page 28) overstated the
amount of the legacy debt of the Jewish
Community Center of Metropolitan
Detroit as of December 2013. The correct
amount was not $8 million, but just over
$6 million. The story also reported that
outgoing CEO Jim Issner indicated the
debt currently had been reduced to just
under $2 million.
