Oak Park High School Class of 1965 alumni created the
Harry Weberman Scholarships, named for a beloved
counselor. At its 50th reunion last October, 215 class-
mates were able to reminisce with Weberman and his
wife, Miriam.
After learning of his death in December, a group of
alumni created the Harry Weberman Scholarship Fund to Harry Weberman
be given to deserving OPHS seniors as a meaningful way
to honor his memory and the impact he had on so many
students.
Former students remember him as a good listener who offered wise advice,
went above and beyond to help his students find the right colleges, gain access to
the necessary scholarships so many needed and cope with personal challenges.
That friendship and guidance is still fondly remembered after 50 years.
More than $14,000 has been raised, permitting multiple scholarships to be
awarded this year.
“Our family is overwhelmed,” said Miriam Weberman. “While we knew my
husband was quite special, we truly had no idea of the depth and breadth of his
impact on so many. Our heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to the OPHS Class
of 1965 for brainstorming and executing the most perfect way to honor Harry’s
memory.”
To donate, send checks payable by March 31 to Oak Park School District with
“Harry Weberman Scholarship Fund” on the check memo. Send to Oak Park
School District, Attn: Ms. Jan Brill, 13900 Granzon, Oak Park, MI 48237.
