life cycles » Leo Henry Abramsky (Shmuel Chaim) will be called to the Torah on Saturday, March 19, at Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park. He is the much loved son of Abramsky Matthew and Sharon Abramsky of Huntington Woods and grandson of Marilyn and Brian Abramsky, and Robert and Susan Friedman. Leo is in seventh grade at Norup International Middle School in Oak Park. For his mitzvah project, he mentored elementary school children at a winter camp in Southwest Detroit. Alexandra Buchman Brevin Buchman Alexandra Tate Buchman and Brevin Chase Buchman, children of Cynthia and Dr. Steven Buchman, will share the bimah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Saturday, March 19, as they celebrate their b’nai mitzvah. Sharing in their celebration will be their siblings Lauren and Bradyn and proud grandparents Matilda and Donald Boufford, and Lillian and Nathan Buchman. Alexandra and Brevin are students at Novi Middle School. Of the many mitzvah projects they took part in, each felt one was the most meaningful. For Alexandra, it was her experience rais- ing funds and donating to the Michigan Humane Society; for Brevin, it was his time volunteering with students at Novi Elementary School. Both felt that being able to make a real difference in others’ lives was very rewarding. Libby Aliza Cohen will lead the congre- gation in prayer on the occasion of her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Saturday, March 19. Cohen Libby is the loving daughter of Lori and Michael Cohen and sister of Benjamin. She is the grandchild of Roslynn Cohen, the late Bernard Cohen, and Mary Ann and Donald Baiers. Libby is a student at White Lake Middle School in White Lake. Among her many mitzvah projects, she felt volunteering for Jewish Family Services Shabbat in the Box to be the most mean- ingful. This program involved creating, decorating and filling Shabbat boxes, which are then delivered to homebound older adults and families. Ivy Grace Kwartowitz of Huntington Woods will become a bat mitzvah on Saturday, March 19, at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township. Ivy is the Kwartowicz adored daughter of Jessica and Gary Kwartowitz, sister of Max and Jack, and granddaughter of Ellen and Allan Wilson, Monica Kwartowitz, and the beloved late Jerome Kwartowitz. Ivy is a seventh-grader at Norup International Middle School in Oak Park. Nolan Alexander Werner will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Friday, March 18, at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Township. He is the son of Carolyn and Werner Scott Werner and the brother of Spencer Werner. His proud grandparents Karyn Werner, and Audrey and Seymour Markowitz will join him on this joyous occasion. Nolan is also the grandson of the late Neil Werner, for whom he was named. Nolan is a student at Derby Middle School in Birmingham. For his mitzvah project, he packed buckets of necessities for people in communities hit by natural disasters. Alexandra Jillian Yaker, daughter of Julie and Daniel Yaker, will read from the Torah on the occasion of her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel in West Yaker Bloomfield on Friday, March 18. She will be joined in celebration by her brothers Noah and Levi and proud grandparents Nancy Kushkin, and Elaine and Barry Yaker. Alexandra is also the granddaugh- ter of the late Larry Kushkin. Alexandra is a student at West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills. She is passionate about animals and designed and sold “Pause 4 Paws” bracelets from which all proceeds benefited local ani- mal rescues. She found this to be the most rewarding of her many mitzvah projects.
