SCHOLAR TO DISCUSS AT PURIM AND ISRAEL

Dr. Lawrence A. Schiffman will serve as scholar in residence
at Tugman Bais Chabad Torah Center in West Bloomfield on
Saturday-Sunday, March 19-20.
He will speak on Shabbat following a luncheon in shul on
“Purim, a Historical Perspective” and on Sunday morning at 10
a.m. on “Israel’s Fault Line: A Historical View of Israel’s Future in
the Shifting Middle East” following a continental breakfast at 9:30.
There is no charge for the lecture on Shabbat; admission to the
Lawrence A.
Sunday program is $15.
Schiffman
Schiffman is a professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New
York University and director of the Global Institute for Advanced
Research in Jewish Studies. He is a specialist in Dead Sea Scrolls, Judaism in late
antiquity, the history of Jewish law and Talmudic literature. For information or res-

RELIGIOUS CONFLICT

Religious Conflict in a four-part weekly series beginning Monday,

taught by Rabbi Tzvi Muller, director
of the Jewish Values Institute.
Esther, at risk of her life, saved the
entire Jewish people from annihila-
tion. Muller will tell how to bring
Esther’s legacy of courage, wisdom
and kindness into our daily lives —
to help make the world a better place.

High school students can spend
a week exploring the richness
and diversity of modern Jewish
literature at the 2016 Great
Jewish Books Summer Program
at the Yiddish Book Center in
Amherst, Mass.
The competitive program,
which is open to rising juniors
and seniors, will offer two ses-
sions in 2016: July 24-29 and
July 31-Aug. 7. The deadline to
