TEACHING VALUES FREE GIFT! $ 35 Value 335 E. Maple / Downtown Birmingham / 248-385-1166 Shaboom! — an animated web series from nonprofit G-dcast — combines the best elements of children’s television with wisdom from the Jewish tradition to teach everyday values to children through magic, comedy and silly songs. Each of the 10 children’s episodes is accompanied by a separate video for parents that delves into each episode’s value, explaining “what’s Jewish” and instilling in parents the knowledge and confidence to model the values for their children. The 10-part series launches April 6 with the theme of hachnasat orchim or welcoming guests. Upcoming themes include gratitude, honor or respect, taking care of nature and courage of the heart. Shaboom! will be accessible free on platforms like YouTube, iTunes and Facebook. “Shaboom! is making timeless Jewish values new again, engaging and fun for children and their parents,” says Dr. Lewis Bernstein, a 40-year veteran of Sesame Street. “When par- ents and children co-engage in learn- ing, virtually and long after the screen dims, the impact is always greater.” Along with the Union for Reform Judaism, other major Jewish part- ners include the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, JCC Association, Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the PJ Library Alliance, and InterfaithFamily. G-dcast also is working with Jewish organiza- tions around the country to organize local screenings of Shaboom! episodes for families. * Actress Mayim Bialik and I have something in common: We both like swimwear, cover-ups and activewear from HydroChic. The clothing is per- fect for strolling on the beach or lying in the sun because its fabric has UPF 50+ protection. Its modest style covers things I want covered, and it works well for observant women, like Bialik, who practice tsniut (modesty). The clothing is fashion-forward and comes in many styles and colors that can be mixed and matched. And the fabric dries quickly and is ultra- resistant to chlorine. “HydroChic is designed to enhance a woman’s natural beauty and flat- ter her body, while offering a range of protection and modest options that fit her lifestyle,” says Sara Wolf, co-founder with Daniella Teutsch. So anyone can enjoy HydroChic clothing. The sizes go up to 4X. Before a recent trip to South Florida, I asked Wolf if she would send me a short-sleeved mini tunic swim dress, bike shorts and a sports bra so I could check out the sun pro- Custom dresses for your special occasion. 6353 Orchard Lake Rd. Bialik likes that the suit is mod- est and lets her be active in the water again. No more oversized T-shirts. According to her blog, she even bought a matching suit for her mother.
