He returns to Michigan from Dallas, where he did an eight-year stint at the luxurious Ritz-Carlton Dallas. There, Sabo handled everything from specialties to purchas- Ryan ing and his Fishman most recent role was as executive sous chef. Sabo will no doubt add to an already impressive culinary team, which has been Todd Sabo lauded with some of the country’s top fine dining awards, includ- ing the impressive AAA Four-Diamond designation, which the Rugby Grille has maintained consecutively since 2001. AND THE NOMINEES ARE … Hour Detroit announced last week its best restaurant of 2016, giving top honors to the highly acclaimed Selden Standard in Midtown. Complimenting everything from their appetizers to grilled entrees, the full nod will be available in the March 2016 issue. Meanwhile, chef and co-owner Andy Andy Hollyday Hollyday is on the short list of local tal- ents named James Beard Foundation 2016 semifinalists. The prize is akin to the Oscar of food, and some 20 candidates are in the running for the Great Lakes region best chef award. Also (deservedly) on the list is Nick Janutol of Forest in Birmingham. Nick Janutol Chef Garrett Lipar, for the second year in a row, made the foun- dation’s list of semifinalists for its Rising Star of the Year award. Until recently you could taste his food at Marais in Grosse Pointe (17051 Kercheval St.), but the restaurant announced last week his departure and the return of chef and owner David Gilbert. Mabel Gray in Hazel Park is a semi- finalist in the top new restaurant category. QUICK TAKES Fast-casual chain Piada Italian Street Food will expand its Michigan presence by adding a new location in Ann Arbor, slated to open in April. The location at 311 S. State St. for- merly housed a now-defunct Five Guys and will be the third Michigan store — following openings in Troy (2038 W. Big Beaver) and Shelby Township. The restaurant’s concept is simple — combining Italian pasta favor- ites with a stone grill baked wrap, hand rolled with fresh and authentic ingredi- ents. Sandwiches and bowl prices start at under $10. If you have an Apple Watch, ordering pizza just got even easier. Ann Arbor headquartered Domino’s Pizza Inc. already lets you place an order with just an emoji (that’s a little digital picture of a pizza, for those who aren’t so techno- logically inclined), but the company has now made available to the public a first- of-its-kind app for the groundbreaking watch that will create yet another option for those too busy to just pick up the phone and place an order. The inevitable end of Bucharest Grill’s partnership with the Park Bar is official, with the restaurant serving its last shawarma earlier this month. A new location on East Jefferson will open the first week in March, and a Hawaiian concept will replace Bucharest before Opening Day.
