JEEP COMMERCIAL WINS FANS

The Jeep brand celebrated its 75th
anniversary this year with two Super
Bowl 50 commercials that recog-
nize the brand milestone. The first,
“Portraits,” was a nod to the past,
an acknowledgment to the many
people, faces and moments that
have shaped the history of the brand
beginning in 1941. “We don’t make
Jeep. You do.” reads the tagline.
“Who knew a Jeep commer-
cial could be so moving?” the
Washington Post said.

Portraits took the top automo-
tive spot in 2016 Annual YouTube
AdBlitz Poll. It was named a Super
Clio Creative Bowl Winner as well as
Adweek’s No. 1 Super Bowl spot.
The second, “4x4ever,” featured a
custom music track performed by
Sony Music artist Morgan Dorr. It
brought to life in song the idea that
4x4 goes beyond solely represent-
ing those who blaze the Trails of the
Rubicon and Moab to living a life
that is without boundaries.

was Hyundai; best luxury brand was
Acura.
Notable award winners include
the 2016 Chevrolet Impala, which
has beat all models in its class since

the inception of this accolade in
2012. In addition to the Impala,

year include the Chevrolet Spark EV,
Chevrolet Colorado, Buick Verano,
Buick Encore, Buick Enclave, Ford
Explorer, Ford Mustang GT, Lexus

STYLING IS TOP CONSIDERATION FOR CAR BUYERS

Interior and exterior styling are the top
considerations for new vehicle buyers,
according to a new survey from J.D.
Power. Reliability finished third, with
55 percent of new-vehicle buyers citing
it as a leading reason, compared with
51 percent in last year’s report and 48
percent in 2013. It was also a deal-
breaker for 17 percent of shoppers,
compared with 14 percent in the 2015
report.
The increased sensitivity to reli-
ability in recent years is a warning to
manufacturers that, despite steady
advances in quality, consumers are
willing to drop models off their shop-

ping list if they’re uncertain about
long-term durability.
“It became pretty clear to us that the
pretty widespread media coverage of
recalls by many automotive companies
last year probably was the driving
force behind this,” says Dave Sargent,
J.D. Power’s global automotive vice-
president.
U.S. auto recalls, including the GM
ignition-switch problem and explod-
ing Takata airbags, hit more than 51
million vehicles last year, beating the
previous record of just less than 51
million in 2014. Recalls were also at an
all-time high in Canada.
