human spirit. “My family’s history is inter-
twined with the Holocaust,” says director
Maureen Mansfield of Farmington Hills.
“When I first read A Diary of a Young Girl
by Anne Frank, it helped me understand
what my family had been through. It
somehow made me feel closer to them.
Growing up, I was always told that it was
our job, as Jews, to spread the word of
the Holocaust,” she adds. “I believe that
anyone involved in the production of
this show is doing a mitzvah by telling
a story about that horrendous event.”
Featuring Amy Cassell as Anne, as well
as Gary Weinstein, Jared Kovacs and
Laurel Stroud. Feb. 12-Feb. 28. $14-$16.

with in the ’60s. No one saw that “credit”
coming. (Sad to say, Ben’s father, Jerry
Stiller, who played the hilarious agent
Marty Ballstein in the original, isn’t in the
sequel. It appears that Jerry, now 88, has
unofficially retired. Ben’s mother, Anne
Meara, died in 2015).
Also opening Feb. 12: Son of Saul,
directed and written by Laszlo Nemes,
38, a Hungarian-born Jew who grew up
in France, and starring Geza Rohrig, 48,
a Hungarian-born observant Jew. It fol-
lows 48 hours in the life of a Hungarian
Jew forced to remove bodies from the
Auschwitz gas chambers. The winner of
the best foreign film Golden Globe, it is
Oscar-nominated in the same category.

Vinyl, which begins on Feb. 14, is about
the world of rock and roll in the 1970s
and it’s probably the most highly antici-
pated HBO series since Game of Thrones.
The star, Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk
Empire), can be a great actor in the right
role — and this looks to be such a role.
He plays a record exec looking to revive
a label. Paul Ben-Victor, 50 (The Wire), is
a regular cast member. He plays Maury
Gold, a slick record company owner. Also,
it appears that Italian-American actors
Max Cassella and Ray Romano (who
aren’t Jewish) are playing regular char-
acters who are supposed to be Jewish.
Also, look for Andrew “Dice” Clay, 58,
in recurring role Frank “Buck” Rogers, a
cocaine-fueled owner of a chain of radio
stations.
