A gifted musician and keen observer
of the North American Jewish scene,
Freelander is known for lecturing
on trends in Reform synagogue life.
Together with Cantor Jeff Klepper, he has
composed dozens of popular Jewish mel-
odies including the well-known “Shalom
Rav” and “Lo Alecha.”
The service, a part of Kol Ami’s 50th
anniversary celebration, will be followed
by a special oneg. RSVP for the oneg is

org. or (248) 661-0040. Rabbi Freelander
will also lead Torah study at 9:30 a.m.

Through Valentine’s Day, Bloomfield
Hills-based Peas & Carrots Hospitality
will host Project Have a Heart at its
Metro Detroit restaurants: Social Kitchen
& Bar, Au Cochon and Arthur Avenue,
all in Birmingham; and MEX and Beau’s
Grillery, both in Bloomfield Township.
The effort benefits Heart 2 Hart
Detroit, whose volunteers go into the
streets of Detroit to distribute life-
sustaining items, including food and
toiletries, to the city’s homeless.
Restaurant guests can participate
by donating needed items in boxes at
each restaurant. All items must be new:
men’s or women’s socks in black or
white; men’s boxer briefs underwear in
medium or large; men’s white T-shirts in

large or extra-large; women’s underwear
sizes 6, 7 or 8; packs of Wet Wipes or a
similar product in 20-30 count; men’s
or women’s deodorant; razors; and fiber
bars or Clif Bars. See the wish list online
at h2hd.org/giving/wish-list.
People also can contribute financially
(and receive a restaurant gift certificate
for 50 percent of the donation up to $50)
and/or dine in any of the restaurants on
Feb. 8 and have a portion of the day’s
proceeds be donated to the organization.
“We hope Project Have a Heart makes
an impact on the quality of life of those
undergoing struggles in our own back-
yard,” said Zack Sklar, owner of Peas &
Carrots Hospitality.
