It’s not the minivan you remember from your childhood. Fiat Chrysler unveiled its
2017 Chrysler Pacifica. Although the name is not new, the vehicle is. The new Pacifica
has been redesigned as the minivan of the future, earning Chrysler head designer
Ralph Gilles an Eye on Design award for best production truck. The 2017 Chrysler
Pacifica with hands-free sliding doors and liftgate has available eight-passenger
seating. Safety features include 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with
autonomous braking, and lane-departure and forward-collision warning. Options
include an in-vehicle vacuum and rear-seat entertainment system to keep kids happy
on long rides. A Pacifica Hybrid with 30 miles of electric range will also be made.

press reveal Jan. 11 at Joe

American Idol host Ryan
Seacrest “interviewed”
Ford Executive Chairman
William Clay Ford Jr.
and Ford CEO Mark
Fields about the
company’s goals for
the future. Ford said
he wants the company
to use its research and
development expertise,
as well as its considerable
capital and existing
partnerships, to expand its business far beyond selling cars and trucks.
“Everybody’s talking about mobility,” Ford said. “Our entire management team
is focused on creating a very different future for the Ford Motor Company.”
“Being an auto and a mobility company is a massive business opportunity,”
Fields added. “The auto industry generates about $2.3 trillion a year in revenue,
and today, our piece is roughly about 6 percent of that. At the same time,
transportation services, which includes things like transit, taxis, drive-sharing —
totals about $5.4 trillion a year, and it’s going to grow over the next 15 years.”
