General Motors’ Chevrolet brand officially
debuted the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze Hatch, which,
according to GM North America President Alan
Batey, will help attract younger buyers to the
brand. The new Cruze sedan debuts early this
year, with the hatch coming out in the fall. Both
have a new 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine with
stop-start technology that can get up to 40 mpg
on the highway. The sedan starts at $16,620; no
price for the Hatch was announced.

Ford unveiled its 2017 Raptor, a SuperCrew-sized version of the F-150 off-road
pickup truck. It has four full-size doors, and the larger cabin makes it 25 cm longer
than the current Raptor. The truck is 500 pounds lighter than its predecessor, while
the new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine packs more horsepower and torque than before.
Also available are new LED lighting and 360-degree camera.

General Motors CEO Mary Barra, along with other GM execs, introduced the 2017
Chevrolet Bolt EV. The five-passenger, four-door Bolt has an electric range of at
least 200 miles. The battery can charge to 80 percent capacity in about 60 minutes
or to 100 percent overnight. The Bolt will also have a new smartphone application
called My Chevrolet, which will extend the vehicle’s capabilities; things such as
remote start and setting the temperature of the cabin can all be controlled by the
mobile app. The 2017 Chevy Bolt goes into production at GM’s Orion Assembly
Plant later this year. It will be priced below $30,000 after federal tax credits.
