he Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit recent-
ly hosted its first initiative for
Giving Tuesday, a program started by
the 92nd Street Y in New York City
to encourage charitable acts and raise
awareness of the need for compassion.
Partnering with the Bottomless Toy
Chest, the JCC invited members and
guests to donate toys to be donated to
young cancer patients in local hospi-
tals. More than 150 presents including
dolls, books, games and art supplies
were donated; staff then wrapped
the gifts, which included get-well
cards created by preschoolers from
the JCC’s Sarah and Irving Pitt Child
Development Center.
Kids from the Sarah and Irving Pitt
Child Development Center wrote and
designed get-well cards, which were
attached to the packages.
