DANIEL LEVIT, 89, of Walled Lake, died Jan. 10, 2016. Born on a bus en route to the Tel Aviv hospital, Dan grew up in Ramat Gan, which, in 1926, was a Levit tiny agricultural set- tlement in Israel. He joined the Irgun as a teenager and was imprisoned in Eritrea along with many of his comrades. After his release, he finished high school and applied to Wayne University, where he completed his B.A. and law degrees. He practiced law in the Detroit area for 60 years, always enjoying his work and the wide variety of people he met as clients and colleagues. He and wife, Geri, maintained close ties with friends and relatives in Israel and visited many times. Mr. Levit was the beloved husband of Geri Levit; dear father of Lisa (Daniel) Newman, Jonathan (Steve Mullin) Levit, and Dona Levinson. He was a loving grandfather to Sonny and Vera Newman, Sivon and Edon Levinson; many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members, clients and friends. He was the brother of the late Norman Levit. Interment was at Clover Hill Park cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Jewish National Fund or to a charity of one’s choice.
