Justin Bartha, 37, who grew up in
Bloomfield Hills, has a big supporting
role in the new Fox comedy series,
Cooper Barrett’s Guide to Surviving
Life, which debuted on Jan. 3 (new
episodes air Sundays at 8:30 p.m.).
The title character is a young man in
search of his first job after college.
Bartha plays Cooper’s 40-year-old mar-
ried brother with two kids.
Starting on PBS on Sunday, Jan. 17,
was Mercy Street, a six-episode medi-
cal drama set during the Civil War.
The action takes place in a hospital
in Virginia, where two nurses from
opposite sides volunteer. Josh (How
I Met Your Mother) Radnor, 41, plays
the lead physician, a Union loyalist
whose Maryland family owned slaves.
(Catch-up tip: All PBS series episodes
are viewable for free online at pbs.
org and via services like Roku. This is
also true of most non-PBS show recent
episodes — especially new series like
Bartha’s show on Fox. Check dptv.org
for local airings of new episodes.)
Starting on Thursday, Jan. 21, at

8 p.m. is the new CW series Legends of
Tomorrow. The complex series premise
begins with the character Rip Hunter
traveling back in time and assem-
bling a team of superheroes to battle
a super-bad guy called the Vandal
Savage. (The late Jacob “Jack” Miller
created the Rip Hunter character in a
1959 DC comic.) The new series co-
stars Victor Garber, 66, as Dr. Martin
Stein, a physicist and sometimes
superhero.
