Campus Martius Park area. Part of the
12th annual Quicken Loans Season of
Winter Magic, CARved will showcase
seven spectacular ice sculptures of
full-size cars representing automotive
history and design — of Detroit and the
world. Among the cars — including a
1957 Chevy Nomad and a 2017 Bugatti
Chiron — three of the ice models will
have interactive elements, allowing for a
“test drive,” and all will be lit from within
to light up at night. Cool! Through Jan.

Opening Friday, Jan. 15: Anomalia, a
stop-action animated film directed and
written by Charlie Kaufman, 57, is about
Michael Stone, a husband and father
who is crippled by the mundanity of
his life. On a business trip, Stone checks
into a hotel and meets Lisa (voiced by
Jennifer Jason Leigh, 53), who may or
may not be the love of his love.
Much different are the action films The
5th Wave and 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers
of Benghazi. Like the Hunger Games
series, Wave is another film based on a
young-adult novel about a Dystopian
future. This time, the world is suffering
from a series of attacks by “the others,”
and Cassie, our young heroine, is on the
run with her young brother — hoping
to survive the lethal “5th wave.” Liev
Schreiber, 48, co-stars as the nasty com-
mander of a refugee camp who may not
be what he seems. Meanwhile, there is
true horror depicted in Benghazi, which
purports to tell us the real story of the
2012 attack on the American consulate
in Bengazi, Libya. It’s directed by Michael
Kaufman
Kazinsky
Bay, 50, best known for frothy, fantasy
fare like Transformers.
NEW ON TV
As you may have heard, Crackle (on
web, Roku, etc.) has released (Dec. 30) a
new season of the Jerry Seinfeld series
Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee — and
his first guest is President Obama. During
the episode, called “Just Tell Him You’re the
President,” the two discuss fame, golfing
with Larry David and, says the president,
how the comedian might have made a
“Jewish version of Citizen Kane.”
Seinfeld, 61, played four sold out
performances in Tel Aviv on Dec. 20-21.
A detailed account by an American audi-
ence member has this gem: “He did drop
some Israel-related humor, saying in
one spot-on joke that Israelis have two
answers to any question: ‘no problem’ or
‘that’s impossible.’”
