(Barbara) Mednick; sister-in-law,

Bloch, Rivka (Jaron) Davis, Yitzchock
(Devora) Bloch, Joseph (Lindsey)

Mr. Bloch was the brother-in-law of
the late Leonard Cotten and the late
Joseph Brody.

Memorial Park Cemetery in Livonia.

79, of Pompano
N Beach, Fla., died Dec.
24, 2015.
She grew up in
iftil
Trenton, Mich., the
only child of Clara
and Ben. Her father,
Ellias
a grocer, owned and
operated Uncle Ben's,
a bar and eatery
on West Road. He and his friend, the
mayor, named a Trenton street after her
— Marian — when she was a child.

In the seventh grade, she decided to
become a journalist. Marian earned a
B.A. from the University of Michigan
and a master's degree, with honors,
in journalism from Columbia. She
worked as a reporter and editor on
papers including Newsday in Long
Island and the New York Post. Eleanor
Roosevelt was one of her favorite inter-
viewees.
Marian lived in Manhattan, near
Union Square, just down the street
from the Strand bookstore, for many
years. She offered the hospitality of her
apartment to generations of friends
and cousins from Michigan. After
retirement, she moved to Pompano
Beach, where she was active in
Womanshare, the Friends of Dickens,
the League of Women Voters and
the Pompano Beach chapter of the
American Association of University
Women.
Ms. Ellias is survived by more than
25 loving cousins and many friends.
Interment was at Machpelah
Cemetery. Contributions may be made

GERTRUDE
EVANS, 97, died

peacefully on Dec.
11, 2015.
In the course of
her long and event-
filled life, she served
as executive assistant
Evans
to the Borman fam-
c. 1985
ily, which owned
Farmer Jack super-
markets. After retirement, Gertrude
met the love of her life, George Amber,
and spent a wonderful 11 years with
"Amber" as his constant personal and
professional companion, traveling the
world and enjoying their lives together.
After Amber's death, Gertrude
moved into Meer Apartments on the
Jewish Community Center Campus
and demonstrated her energies and
abilities by becoming a lead columnist
for the Meer Messenger, managing the
film club and library for residents, and
being a beloved member of the com-
munity.
After suffering several broken hips,
she was forced to re-locate to Ambrosia
Villa in Beverly Hills. Her incredible
spirit remained and she spent her days
