Jewish Learning Department,
FedEd, adults can study with
leading rabbis and scholars to explore
the Bible, Talmud, Jewish history, litera-
ture, art and ethics. Unless otherwise
noted, all classes are held at the Max M.
Fisher Federation Building, Bloomfield
Hills. Below are some of the classes
offered this winter:
• From Sinai to Seinfeld: The History
of Jewish Humor with Ruth Bergman.
Students will analyze the concerns
and values of the Jewish people buried
deep in the words that make us laugh.
Monday mornings and evening begin-
ning Feb. 29.
• The Fiery and the Fallen: Angels
and Demons in Judaism with Dr. Justin
Sledge. Combing through Jewish texts,
understand the place of angels and
demons in our tradition. Monday eve-
nings beginning Jan. 25.
• The Book of Genesis: Reading It
Again For the First Time with Rabbi
Joseph Klein. Monday evenings begin-
ning Jan. 25.
• Kingdoms of Heaven, Kingdoms of
Hell with Professor Howard Lupovitch.
An exploration into the experiences
of the Jewish people as they have lived
under the aegis of one kingdom or
empire and why some worked out better
for the Jews than others. Tuesday eve-
nings beginning Jan. 12.
• A Psychologist's Look at the Bible —
Husbands, Wives and Lovers with Dr.
Mitch Parker. A look at male/female
relationships through the lens of the
famous couples of the Tanach. Thursday
mornings beginning Jan. 7.
•Judaism's 10 Best Foods with Rabbi
Ariana Silverman. Sample some of
Judaism's best known foods as we delve
into the Jewish culture(s), values, reli-
gious rituals, history and debates they
represent. Thursday evenings beginning
Feb. 4 at Jewish Kitchens in Detroit
• World Religions from a Jewish
Perspective with Dr. Mitch Parker.
Gain a greater appreciation about what
is unique in Judaism and learn the
basic principles of other faith systems.
Thursday evenings beginning Feb. 4.
• Parsha Plus (Weekly Torah Portion
Plus Haftorah) with local rabbis and
educators. Hear from a different rabbi
or educator each week Friday mornings
beginning Jan. 8.
