A RAW BOOK, A KILLER BAND

In 1994, Greil Marcus called Sleater-
Kinney "America's best rock band" in Time
magazine. After putting out 10 albums
in seven years, the riot grrrl band — trio
Carrie Brownstein, Janet Weiss and Corin
Tucker—from the Pacific Northwest has
just released its first album in 10 years,
No Cities to Love, and head to the Royal

ners, have been announced, but they
include Tony Bennett, Alicia Keyes
and Adam Levine. Sinatra had many
personal flaws, but many good sides;
in the latter category, he was fiercely
opposed to racism and anti-Semitism
and a strong supporter of Israel. He
visited the country three times and
his many monetary donations in sup-
port of Israel included $1 million to
build an International Student Center
at Hebrew University.
On Monday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. Fox
will air a special entitled TV's Funniest

Animated Stars: A Paley Center Special.

There will be clips and interviews with
(living) creators of animated shows
and performers who do the voices of
prominent cartoon characters, includ-
ing Pamela Adlon (Bobby Hill on King

(Riverhead Books), which tells of growing
up in the Seattle suburbs with a mom hos-
pitalized for an eating disorder and a father
who later came out as gay. $25-$30 (248)

characters, including Bob and Sterling

(Lois Griffin on Family Guy); and Seth
Green (Chris Griffin on Family Guy). I
expect the show will have to include
the late Mel Blanc, who created the
voice of, and voiced, virtually every
Warner Brothers character, including
Bugs Bunny and Porky Pig. He was
and remains the king of cartoon voice
actors and, on top of that, he was an
extraordinarily kind and generous
man. The very interesting and really
entertaining 2008 American Masters
