hanukah Wonderland, now in
its seventh year, opens to the
public from Dec. 9-13, bring-
ing fun-filled crafts, activities, holiday
foods and pure Chanukah joy to young
and old alike.
The Wonderland will include
familiar delights such as the world's
biggest dreidel-shaped moon-bounce,
a hands-on olive-making demonstra-
tion, doughnut and latke making
and Chanukah Tot Town, as well as
new opportunities such as design a
Chanukah T-shirt, holiday movie cor-
ner, Chanukah game show and plenty
more for the entire family.
In total, there are some 30 entertain-
ing and fun-filled activities and crafts
to enjoy and to return and enjoy again.
Following in the footsteps of last
year's Can-Menorah (or CANorah),
which contributed close to 400 pounds
of food to the hungry, this year's
Wonderland will include an 8-foot
custom-designed Coin Menorah (or
COINorah), which will be made of
stained wood and Plexiglas and will
double as a giant charity box (the
branches are made to be filled with
coins). Proceeds from the COINorah
will go to benefit local charities,
including Yad Ezra, Friends of the IDF,
JARC, JFS and others.
Highlight events at the Chanukah
Wonderland include the grand meno-
rah lighting at 6 p.m. on Thursday,
Dec. 10, which will take place in the
center of the mall and will feature
the Rogers Park Band from Chicago,
latkes, doughnuts and soups, and the
lighting of the COINorah. The pro-
gram will be preceded by a car meno-
rah parade along Orchard Lake Road.
The event is free and sponsored by
Save-On Drugs.

Another highlight event is the Home
Depot Workshop on Sunday, Dec. 13.
During the workshop, children will
receive the tolls and learn to build their
own wooden menorah. Home Depot
representatives will be on hand to assist.
At a time when current news stories
tell of people intent on wreaking havoc
and causing pain and terror to the Free
World, we owe it to ourselves and our
children to celebrate the beauty and
joy of Chanukah, and the love, kind-
ness and giving which is at the core of
the Jewish faith:' said Rabbi Shneur
Silberberg, outreach director at the
Sara and Morris Tugman Bais Chabad
Torah Center.
"And we must remember the
religious values and freedoms that
the Macabbees fought for to redeem
Jerusalem and the holy temple he
added.
Chanukah Wonderland also offers
a fascinating educational experience.
Every half hour during Wonderland
hours, there will be an olive press
demonstration at which children see
olives pressed into oil while hearing
the Chanukah story, which culminated
in the kindling of the olive oil-filled
menorah in the Temple.
While there is no cost to attend
Chanukah Wonderland, participants
are encouraged to make a $5 donation
to help cover the many expenses.
Chanukah Wonderland is presented
by the Sara Tugman Bais Chabad
Torah Center in partnership with the
Orchard Mall and Kroger and with the
help of numerous sponsors.
