Philosophy and Extended
Purpose of Orthodontics

Orthodontists should do much more than straighten people's teeth. A mission
statement or objective that I ascribe to in my practice is as follows; Dr. Hersh
and his staff are committed to enhancing the quality of life for those people who
choose to come to us for their orthodontic health care. This includes excellence
in our orthodontic results. Equally as important, we are committed to the creation
of an environment that is open, friendly, and a fun place to be. When someone
leaves our office, we want him or her to feel better about themselves. We treat
every child as if they were our own. We are honored and privileged to be able to
enhance one's life.

It is important to remember that this applies to both children and adults even
though our practice is 85% children. We feel successful in our treatment, when
our patient smiles more, is happier and has greater confidence and self-esteem.
This is illustrated by the following short story. We had a young lady who at 11 or
12 was not happy or smiling very often. We were able to be a positive influence
upon her life and she at the conclusion of orthodontics was an extraverted, happy,
smiling person. She unfortunately passed away but her parents told me that her
last few years were happy, and that she frequently commented that her smile was
one of her assets, and she enjoyed smiling and was truly happy.

A plaque was placed in my office that reads "A hundred years from now it will not
matter what ones bank account was, the sort of house one lived in, or the kind of
car driven...but the world may be a better place and different because I, or you
were important in the life of a child."

Drs. Hersh, Beattie & Isenberg invite you to join our patient family.
