Rivers, who graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania with a major
in European history, wanted liberal arts
schooling as a foundation to go into
business with reading, writing and criti-
cal thinking skills. She created the Red
Carpet franchise with her mom and
continues to produce and co-host the
E! series Fashion Police, which she also
launched with her mom.
Appearance tips are at the core of
her book Red Carpet Ready: Secrets for
Making the Most of Any Moment You're

"I always felt a small sense of pressure
[to look fashionable when I walk out the
door]," says Rivers, who didn't want peo-
ple to see her in person and report that
she looked terrible. "Once my mother
died and there was a lot more attention
on me, I've felt a lot more pressure.
"My mother subscribed to the more-
is-more school of dressing. I have a very
different style sensibility than my moth-
er. Ifs about understanding the artisan-
ship and craftsmanship and appreciating
