ABOVL In the "homework room;'

adjacent to the mudroom, three sepa-

rate work stations (see "Get the Look"

on page 64) provide work space and

storage. On this side, a window seat

allows for working in comfort around

a work table, where Mom can come

from her desk at "command central;'

says Weinstein, to help with projects.

The Eames-style chairs on wheels

allow kids to glide back and forth.

RIG' "We spent the most time

talking about mudrooms and laun-

dry rooms;' Weinstein says. "If you

work, which [the homeowner] does,

and you have to get four kids out of

the house every morning, you need

a well-oiled machine:' Hooks, draw-

ers and cubbies provide plenty of

storage for backpacks, jackets and

sports equipment; the other side (not

shown) is just for Mom and Dad. The

homeowner did not want the room

enclosed by a door — she thought

the kids would never put their stuff

away — so Weinstein added a drape

with a red-leather border to soften

the opening. Random-patterned and

practical bluestone slate covers the

floor of the entire back of the house.
