In a statement emailed to its cli- ents last week, the JCC said it would "work to identify a suitable food ser- vice vendor to fill the space, with the objective of meeting the needs of all of our members and constituents:' It suggested that patrons check the JCC's Facebook and Twitter pages or call for additional updates. "This really came out of the blue JCC Executive Director James Issner said. Though Issner added it was too early to comment as to when the empty restaurant will be filled, he said the JCC is looking to replace the restaurant "with a food service" that will be kosher. In 2013, Jerusalem Pizza owners Brian and Rivka Jacobs refreshed their business at the JCC with a bis- tro-like, sit-down setting in addition to the counter service pizzeria and sandwich shop. That was renamed Jerusalem Bistro. The business also catered many events — business meetings, lec- tures, bridal and baby showers and other private parties — both outside the JCC and in a room adjacent to the restaurant. Jerusalem Pizza and its catering component remain open in Southfield. Brian Jacobs was con- tacted, but did not wish to comment at this time. He did say the closure of the restaurant was a loss for all JCC patrons and others who would come to the JCC to see a show or attend the center's cultural events, such as the book and film festivals. "We will look at a number of pro- posals and business models:' Issner said. "We will also survey our clients to see what they would like to open up in terms of a new eatery:' Jerusalem Bistro was the only kosher dairy restaurant located in the western part of Detroit's Jewish community where patrons could order kosher pizza, salads, sand- wiches and pastas for birthday par- ties, youth group events or a harried weeknight meal. "Jerusalem Pizza in West Bloomfield was a mainstay for our community," said Jenn Guyton Goldman, 43, of West Bloomfield, who often ordered pizza there for her family. "Not only did we have a place close by where we could sit down and have a good meal, but the con- venience of being able to run in and grab a pie and some sides on a busy day was so greatly appreciated. We understand it was a business deci- sion, but we will sorely miss having them out here:' * 4 * •4 B"H YOU ARE INVITED TO THE 2ND ANNUAL COMMEMORATION OF 7"03.
