"Music is the sound of celebration;' says
bluesman Lazer Lloyd."Music can unite
us. We need to stay away from politics
and love each other, learn from each
other and really meet each other."The
American-born Israeli, whose guitar-
playing and vocals are influenced by
gospel, Southern rock and the melo-
dies of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, has
opened for Johnny Winter and Prince
— and today is known as "Israel's King
of the Blues." See him perform 7:30

During Hitler's reign, more than 1,200
feature films — considered by the Nazis
to be their most powerful propaganda
tool — were made in Germany. Of these,
upwards of 40 are considered so repug-
nant and hateful that they cannot be
legally exhibited in Germany today with-
out scholarly context. In Forbidden Films:
The Hidden Legacy of Nazi Films, director
Felix Moeller uses clips from these films
(including Homecoming, shown) along
with interviews with archivists and film
historians. After making the rounds at
the Telluride Film Festival and the New
York and Toronto Jewish film festivals,
Forbidden Films will be shown 2 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 1, at the Detroit Film Theatre
at the DIA. $7.50-$9.50. (313) 833-4005;

Turshen

plot involves the romance of David's
fairly homely friend, Wheeler (Oliver
Cooper, 26) and Misty (Alexandra
Turshen, 29), a beautiful young
blonde. Cooper co-starred in Project X
(2012) and played David Duchovny's
"love child" in the last season of
Califomication. Turshen is a talented
newcomer.
My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend premiered on
the CW network on Monday, Oct. 12.
New episodes air Mondays at 8 p.m.,
but you can catch up online (free),
On Demand or on Hulu. The show
stars Rachel Bloom, 28, as a successful
but unhappy New York lawyer who is
inspired to seek her bliss in Los Angeles
after a chance meeting with a sum-

mer camp boyfriend who dumped her.
Neither Bloom nor her series are regular
TV fare. Each episode includes at least
two full-out musical-production num-
bers and the humor is pretty sophisti-
cated.
Bloom became a YouTube star with
40 or more mostly musical videos, in
which she sings and often dances.
Millions have viewed these shorts
and many of the vids are "very Jewish"
(including a sexy parody of "Santa
Baby" called "Chanukah Honey").
Well, the YouTube "Bloom Block" was
discovered by top screenwriter Aline
Brosh McKenna, 48. McKenna crafted
a series pilot with Bloom and got it on
the air. *
