NEW 2016 PASSAT
SELF-MENDING FLATS?
Few things will ruin a day faster than
a flat tire. But what if you never had to
break out that spare again? Scientists
have developed a new type of rubber
that can heal itself after a tear or break.
Amit Das and his colleagues at the
Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research
in Dresden, Germany, published their
research in ACS Applied Materials &
Interfaces. No word when the technol-
ogy will be coming to a tire store near
you. *
ediation is an alternative that can help you retain more time, money,
and privacy during your legal battle. Barbara Smith, J.D., former district
court magistrate and administrative law judge with more than 25 years of
legal experience, lends her unique blend of reason, calmness and tenacity to the
process, helping guide opposing parties to mutually agreeable solutions. She has
successfully mediated hundreds of cases over the past decade.
M
The Smith Mediation Center provides an alternative to the contentious atmosphere
that often pervades legal actions. Mediators do not represent either party; rather,
they promote neutral guidance throughout the mediation process and allow parties
to maintain control of their situation, create nontraditional solutions within the
law, and keep specific issues private. Ms. Smith and the team at Smith Mediation
Center will work together to help create an environment where a mediated
resolution can be created as an alternative to traditional litigation.

WHAT VEHICLE DO YOU
ASSOCIATE WITH THE
LIONS?
Volkswagen of America debuted the
new 2016 Volkswagen Passat, which
features more aggressive styling than
its predecessor, with a new hood, front
fenders, grille, front and rear bumpers,
trunk lid and available LED headlights
and taillights. In short, the only sheet
metal that remains unchanged is the
roof, the doors and the body side
stamping.
Slimmer headlights, a more substan-
tial four-bar grille, and the muscular,
domed hood all work together to give
the Passat a wider, more planted stance
from the front.
At the back, the new car has a
premium European-style flush rear
license plate area. Additionally, a new
chrome strip on the trunk makes the
rear lights appear lower, enhancing the
grounded appearance, while chrome
on the window surrounds, bumpers
and door trim adds to the premium
nature of the design. Dramatic LED
headlights and taillights provide bet-
ter lighting performance with reduced
energy consumption. *
The website Swapalease surveyed
consumers and asked them what
NFL team they associated with which
vehicle. The Detroit Lions ranked in
three categories: the NFL team that
"reminds you most of a minivan for
soccer moms," "reminds you most of
a Dodge with too many miles on it"
and "reminds you most of a stolen
car:' What, no Ferrari? *
FORD INTRODUCES NEW
F-SERIES SUPER DUTY
Ford recently introduced the all-new
2017 Ford F-Series Super Duty. Using
advanced materials to reduce weight,
2017 F-Series Super Duty pickup truck
and chassis cab feature all-new, segment-
exclusive smart technology to help
increase customer productivity, comfort
and convenience.
The backbone is an all-new, fully
boxed frame comprised of more than 95 percent high-strength steel that is up to 24
times stiffer than the previous frame — enabling the most towing and hauling capa-
bility ever delivered by Super Duty. The new truck line features heavier-duty four-
wheel-drive components, driveline, axles and towing hardware.
For the first time, the Super Duty body uses high-strength, military-grade, alumi-
num alloy, which is more dent- and ding-resistant than the outgoing steel body and
not subject to red rust corrosion.
Together, high-strength steel and high-strength aluminum alloy help reduce weight
by up to 350 pounds while Ford is reinvesting additional weight savings everywhere it
counts, to give customers more towing and hauling capability than ever before.
The all-new Super Duty will be built at the Kentucky Truck Plant and goes on sale
late next year. *
