AT THE MOVIES
Opening Friday, Oct. 9: The Walk, a 3-D
film, stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt, 34, as
Phillipe Petit, the French tight-rope walker
most famous for, in 1974, stringing a line
between the Twin Towers of New York's
World Trade Center and successfully walk-
ing from one tower to the next.
Steve Jobs is the third bio-pic about the
co-creator of Apple since his death, and
critics all agree that it's by far the best
one. Directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog
Millionaire), the film's screenplay by Aaron
Sorkin (The Social Network), 54, drew from
Stuhlbarg
a Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson, 62.
The film centers on the launch of three
iconic Apple products, ending with the
iMac intro in 1998. Michael Fassbender
plays Jobs, with Seth Rogen, 33, as Apple
co-founder Steve Wozniak.
Other major real-life characters include
John Sculley (played by Michigander
Jeff Daniels). Sculley forced Jobs out of
Apple in 1985, but Jobs returned in 1997;
Joanna Hoffman (Kate Winslet), now 60,
the marketing chief of Macintosh; and
Andy Hertzfeld (Michael Stuhlbarg,
47), now 62. Hertzfeld wrote much of
the code for the original Mac operating
system, including many elements of its
signature graphical user interface. *
