CRY WOOLF
Selected for the 1963 Pulitzer Prize
for drama, Edward Albee's Who's
Afraid of Virginia Woolf caused an
uproar due to profanity and sexual
themes, resulting in the award being
overruled (no drama prize was given
that year). Further popularized by
Mike Nichols' (born Mikhail Igor
Peschkowsky, he was 7 when his
family fled Nazi Germany)1966 film
starring Elizabeth Taylor (she con-
Boris Spassky (Liev Schreiber, 47).
However, Bobby's chess coach, a
Catholic priest (Peter Saarsgard),
vetoes this — thinking it will impair
his genius.
Advance reviews praise per-
formances — but it's very hard to
explain madness, or great chess
genius, in any film and Pawn, most
reviews say, has not quite succeed-
ed. The 2011 documentary, Bobby
Fischer against the World," by Liz
Garbus, 45, is terrific and probably
leaves you more informed than any
attempt at dramatization.
Sicario stars Emily Blunt as an
idealistic FBI agent enlisted by an
elite government task-force offi-
cial (Josh Brolin) to aid in the drug
wars. This film has terrific buzz as
an exciting, if ultra-violent, thrill
ride. Victor Garber, 66, and Jon
Berthnal, 38, have big support-
ing roles. A much lighter tone is
found in Hotel Transylvania 2, an
animated monster comedy directed
by Gennady Tartakovsky, 45. It fea-
tures the voices of Adam Sandler
(Count Dracula), Andy Samberg, Mel
Brooks and Fran Drescher.

series, Life in Pieces. Following
the intertwined lives of three gen-
erations of the Short family, each
episode will be told in four stories,
one for each branch of the family,
and will tackle the complexities of
everyday life. The oldest generation
is represented by
John and Joan
Short. In one pre-
miere vignette,
we meet Jen, the
daughter-in-law
of Joan and John.
Id
Zoe Lister-Jones,
33, plays Jen with
Colin Hanks (Tom's
son) playing her husband.
Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 22,
(at 9 p.m. ) was the Fox series,
Scream Queens, described as a
"new killer comedy-series from the
guys who brought you American
Horror Story." The premise — an
elite sorority house has brought
on the ire of Dean Munsch (Jamie
Lee Curtis, 56) for not pledging
students of all backgrounds. Not
long after Munsch says they have
to admit everybody — a devil suit-
wearing killer starts knocking off
sorority members, one episode at a
time.
