JCRC Provides A Range
Of Views On Iran Pact
U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence's pre-
sentation on Aug. 13 to the Jewish
Community Relations Council board
of directors at the Max M. Fisher
Jewish Federation building (Aug. 27,
page 14) was one of several events
JCRC orchestrated with members of
Congress, including U.S. Rep. Dave
Trott, journalists, academics and
government officials throughout the
60-day congressional review period
on the Iran nuclear deal to expose the
Jewish community to a broad range
of opinion.
Also, on Thursday, Sept. 3, White
House officials Paul Irwin and Matt
Nosanchuk will speak at a JCRC-
convened event at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield at 7:30
p.m.
JCRC has also used its website
(detroitjcrc.org) and its Twitter and
Facebook feeds to present news
reports and op-eds reflecting diverse
opinions on the Iran agreement. All
of this is intended to provide our
Jewish community with the oppor-
tunity to learn as much as they can
about the nuclear agreement, decide
where they stand on the issue, and
then tell their representatives in
Congress how they want them to vote.

Rally Urges People To
Lobby Against Iran Deal
The Southfield Civic Center was the
stage for 250 patriotic Americans of all
backgrounds to rally against the Iran
deal on Aug. 26.
We waved our American flags, sang
our national anthem and 'America the
Beautiful."
Speakers told us that Iran's only use
for ICBM technology we are allowing
them to have per the deal is to deliver
a nuclear weapon to the United
States, the "Big Satan."
They described how flawed
the deal is, and as patriotic
Americans, we must communicate
with our federal representatives and
senators and insist they vote against
this dangerous, flawed deal.

Retired Staff Sgt. Robert Bartlett,
a wounded warrior, made a power-
ful appeal to vote "no" as did all the
speakers. Among the many great
speakers were community leader and
entrepreneur Hannan Lis and Rabbi
Aaron Starr of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek.
The shofar was blown in support of
Israel and the Jewish people by one of
our Christian patriots that attended
the rally, and we were reminded of
Menachem Begin's words: "When the
enemy says he wants to destroy us,
we should believe him and do every-
thing to prevent it."
The audience was encouraged to
call their elected representatives
regardless of their stated position as
nothing is certain until the vote, and
we are learning more each day about
this bad agreement.
I congratulate Dr. Eugene
Greenstein and his team for organiz-
ing this event.

Maccabi Teens Enjoy
A 'Fantastic Program'
The athletes and artists from the 2015
JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest
are back from Wisconsin and Fort
Lauderdale. Once again, our delegation
represented the Detroit community
and our JCC proudly. Regardless of the
outcome of any game, match or meet,
these kids will have memories that far
outweigh any score.
It is a privilege and honor to be part
of such a fantastic program that not
only provides excellent competition for
the athletes and world-class instruction
for the artists, but also allows Jewish
teens from all over the world to social-
ize, help out in their host community
and make lifelong friends.
We look forward to next year in St.
Louis, Mo., and Stamford, Conn.

Kosher Supervision Missing
For Deli Slicing In Groceries
Thank you for your comprehensive
review of the Detroit kosher scene. It
is gratifying to know that the kosher
market has grown by leaps and bounds
over the years and that there are many
venues available today to buy kosher
food and enjoy a kosher meal.
There is one issue, however, that
needs to be clarified: The article
quotes several area store managers
as claiming to have kosher slicers for
deli meats or cheese, or dedicating
grinders for kosher fish production.
In truth, kosher meat or fish or
cheese that has been unsealed from
its original sealed packaging and is
being processed by store employees
without the presence of a kosher
supervisor, is no longer considered
kosher and may not be eaten accord-
ing to Jewish kosher laws.
