Michigan
Technological
University has
released the Dean's
List for the 2015
spring semester. To be
included, students
must
achieve a grade
Newhouse
point average of 3.5 or
higher. Among the honorees is Lorne
Newhouse of West Bloomfield, majoring
in mechanical engineering. He earned
University Honors, finishing in the top 2
percent of his college. Newhouse is the
son of Roxane and Brian Newhouse and
grandson of Donald Nusholtz.

Ten outstanding
women were chosen
from more than 100
nominations to be
inducted into the
32nd class of the
Michigan Women's
Hall of Fame. The
Berman
induction will take
place at the Michigan
Women's Hall of Fame
Awards Dinner &
Induction Ceremony
in October. Among
the inductees are:
Rep. Maxine Berman
of West Bloomfield,
Shapiro
who served in the
Michigan House
of Representatives
for 14 years, during
which time she was
a strong advocate
for women's health.
Along with sponsor-
ing a bill mandating
Newblatt
informed consent for
women diagnosed
with breast cancer, another Berman law
made Michigan the first state to require
the accreditation of mammography
facilities. She then successfully lobbied
the federal government to create leg-
islation for national standards, which
passed in 1992; Esther K. Shapiro of
Detroit is a consumer rights advocate.
She was appointed the first director of
Detroit's Consumer Affairs Department,
where she created a program to hear
and respond to consumer complaints.
Shapiro traveled throughout Michigan
helping others understand consumer
legislation and how important it was to
"read the label:' She also served on the
boards of many national organizations
such as the Consumer Federation of
America and the National Consumers
League. One of the historical nominees
is Judge David Newblatt, a circuit judge
and presiding judge of Genesee County
Family Court. He established Michigan's
first and only Girls Court, a specialty
treatment court that provides gender-
specific and trauma-informed therapy,

services and intensive judicial review to
at-risk girls in the juvenile delinquency
system. The goal is to build functional-
ity and resiliency to reduce the risk of
becoming victims of human trafficking
and other negative outcomes.

Kravitz to the firm's

groups. Kravitz is a member of the U.S.

Public Outreach Committee. He also
serves as vice president of the Six Rivers
Land Conservancy.

Nancy R. Kaufman is
the recipient of the
Wayne State
University
Distinguished Alumni
Award for 2015, the
university and alumni
association's way to
Kaufman
recognize the out-
standing achievements of alumni. She is
the owner and director of the Kaufman
Children's Center in West Bloomfield and
has been a speech-language pathologist
for more than 35 years. She serves as a
guest lecturer at the university on a regu-
lar basis and is a member of the board of
visitors for WSU's Merrill Palmer
Skillman Institute for Child and Family
Development.

The Stephenson,

law firm (SAC) based
in San Jose, Calif.,
recently named the
recipients of its Value
Awards for second
quarter 2015. Among
Brant
them was former
Detroiter Noah Brant, a specialist in site
development in Chicago. Brant also
received the SWOT (Simple Ways To
Optimize Training) trophy.

Farmington Hills-
based Fabian, Sklar &
King P.C. announced
that Founding
Shareholder Michael
H. Fabian has been
named Best Lawyers'
2016 Insurance Law
Fabian
"Lawyer of the Year."
This is the second time in the past three
years that Fabian has been named
Lawyer of the Year in the insurance cate-
gory.
