n Aug. 9, NCJW/Greater

Detroit helped 382 local
underserved children pre-
pare for the first day of school by outfit-
ting them with brand new clothing and
school supplies at its second annual Back
2 School Store.
Children in grades K-5 from low-
income families were pre-selected for
this one-day event in partnership with
eight local social service agencies. Each
child received new clothing, including a
winter coat, hat, gloves, pants, two shirts,

underwear, socks and shoes plus a new
backpack filled with school supplies, per-
sonal care items and a book, all free.
The event was staffed by 250 volun-
teers and was made possible through
grants from local organizations and
hundreds of corporate and individual
donors.
In addition, a community resource
information room was available to par-
ents and guardians while their children
were shopping with a volunteer personal
shopper.
