of house-made horseradish and a drop of
Tabasco made their taste even better.
"Across the street on Iberville is the
glitzier and more tourist-friendly Acme
Oyster Bar, which we also love. We had
the opportunity to taste-test the oyster
po-boy and the red beans and rice at both
locations. Both were wonderful, although
Felix's was our winner for each. Its po-boy
was light with a crackling crust, the fried
oysters crisp and plump and the sandwich
properly 'dressed' with tomato, lettuce and
mayonnaise.
"The red beans and rice at Felix's were
our favorite of the trip. There are almost
as many ways to make red beans and rice
as there are restaurants in the French
Quarter. Creamy and rich, Felix's imparts a
smokiness to their recipe that wasn't found
at other places:"

Redcoat Tavern, Orchard Lake Road, West
Bloomfield, you'll appreciate server Sarah
Burris even more ... It goes so well with
her efficiency and devotion to dining satis-
faction of her pleased customers.
OLDIE BUT GOODIE DEPT. ... A cop
pulls a car over and informs the driver that
he had just entered him in a safety contest
that encourages drivers to wear seat belts.
The cop explained that if he won he would
receive $50,000, but as a runner-up he
would get at least $5,000.
"What are you going to do with the
money?" asked the cop. "Weir said the
driver, "I guess I'm going to get a driver's
license:'
"Oh, don't listen to him:' said his wife.
"He's always a smart aleck when he's drunk:'

Both had been married before
and looked forward to their
second try with very big antici-
pation ... However, a huge
barrier that didn't know right
from wrong was confronting
them square in their deeply
felt hearts and faces ... and I
do mean one that might have
spelled tragedy if by any other
couple but them.
Without much doubt, the
fact that Michael Hermanoff
was a graduate of the University of
Michigan ... and Sandy a graduate from
her beloved Ohio State University ... was
like a fourth-down-and-long situation
from the beginning.
But who says that the relationship on
a football field between these universi-
ties is completely strained? ... Maybe so,
where victorious pigskin engagements are
concerned but, for sure, not in private life
... At least not with Michael and Sandy
Hermanoff who will celebrate the 40th
anniversary of their marriage vows by
renewing them on Saturday, Sept. 12, at
Temple Beth El, Bloomfield Township ...
Even the logos of their respective "Love &
Rivalry" schools ... Michael's U-M ... and
Sandy's OSU ... are on the invitation ...
separated only by "please come join our
love" directions.
READER MINI REVIEW ... From
Steve Pardo ... "On the western side of the
French Quarter in New Orleans, Felix's
Restaurant and Oyster Bar on Iberville
Street, has been dishing up staples for over
70 years. My wife, Leslie, and I took seats
at the bar where a gentleman continuously
shucked oysters.
"The half-dozen fresh oysters we
ordered arrived quickly, were nicely chilled
and had a delicate brininess that occurs
when the oysters are super fresh. A dollop
