Yogathon To Aid

oga By Design Foundation
will host an all-day Yogathon
at Karma Yoga in West
Bloomfield from 6:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 12, with all proceeds
helping to provide yoga programs for
underserved populations and students
who could most benefit from yoga, but
have no access to affordable programs.
A $20 per class minimum donation
is requested. Participants can register
online and see class schedules at https://

basis).
Yoga By Design
Foundation is the
first organization of
its kind in the nation
to raise money for the
purpose of providing
yoga at no cost to a
variety of recipients,
including Metro
Lynn Medow
Detroiters with Down
syndrome, multiple
sclerosis, cancer,
physical and mental disabilities, as well
as veterans, homeless and children who
have suffered abuse and neglect.
The Foundation currently supports
nine programs in the Detroit area.
"People under stress from poverty,
illness and other life circumstances
can use yoga for coping, healing and,
ultimately, empowerment:' says Lynn
Medow, founder and president of Yoga
by Design Foundation. "Yoga guides
them back to their strongest and most
balanced self'
There is evidence that yoga can lower
blood pressure, heart rate and choles-
terol levels, improve circulation, alleviate
pain linked to migraine headaches, less-
en back problems and arthritis, reduce
symptoms of asthma and diabetes and
increase strength and flexibility.
This is the fifth year Karma Yoga
has donated the studio as host for the
Yogathon.
The Yogathon is sponsored by the
Detroit Lions, Buddy's Pizza, Studio for
Bodywork, Acupuncture Healthcare
Associates of Michigan, Karma Yoga,
Rebecca Meisner, Coldwell Banker,
Changing Places Moving, Main Street
Bank, Live in Woodbridge and many
individuals.
