BERNETTA "BUNNY" MILLER-SHAW, 82, of Birmingham, died Aug. 14, 2015. She was a psychiatric social worker with an M.S.W. granted by the University of Michigan in 1974. She was the director of Associates of Birmingham, an affiliate of the Henry Ford Health System, from 1986 until 1993 and had been in pri- vate practice since then. From 1978 until 1986, she was owner and co-director of the Center for Contemporary Psychology in Birmingham. Her career also included positions as a school social worker in Troy, an adoption worker for Family and Children's Services and a consultant for adolescents at the Jewish Community Center. Mrs. Miller-Shaw supervised students in group, marital and individual psychotherapy. She appeared regularly on local TV and radio talk shows, particularly on Kelly & Company. Mrs. Miller-Shaw was certified as a licensed marriage counselor and as a licensed school social worker. She was a member of the American Group Psychotherapy Association, a member of the National Association of Social Workers and a member of the National Registry of Health Care Providers in Clinical Social Work. She was also a board-certified dip- lomate in clinical social work. She is survived by her husband, Melvin Shaw; children, Mitch Miller, Ron and Lee Miller; Melvin's children, Adam Shaw, Evan Shaw and Lianne Pascal-Shaw; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. She was the dear mother-in-law of the late Alison Miller. Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel. THOMAS NESSEL, 94, of West Bloomfield, died Aug. 11, 2015. He was an Army vet- eran of World War II. He was a man adored by all; he was a pillar of strength, a man of virtue Nessel and a loving soul. Mr. Nessel is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Katz and Dr. Mark Diem of Bloomfield Hills, Michelle and Robert Shur of Farmington Hills, Debra Nessel and her partner, Jeffrey Lutz, of Walled Lake; sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Marvin Shlain of Farmington Hills; sister-in-law, Ruth Garson; grand- children, Ryan and Julie Katz, Robyn and Jordan Roberts, Matthew Shur, Erica Shur; great-grandchildren, Olivia Katz, Tyler Katz, Anne Roberts, Henry Roberts; part- ner for 24 years, Marilyn Rosner; her dear family; nieces, nephews, loving friends and caregivers. Mr. Nessel was the beloved husband for 40 years of the late Esther Nessel; loving son of the late Jennie and the late Max Nessel; dear brother-in-law of the late Ralph Garson, the late Lillian and the late Joe Tolchin. She is survived by her beloved husband, Larry Niven; daughters, Lisa and Shari Niven; broth- Niven ers and sisters-in-law, Sanford and Adrienne Guss, Bernie and Nancy Guss; sister in law, Janie Niven; brother-in-law, Ron Pollack; former sister in law, Marilyn Guss; many dear nieces, nephews; aunt, Jennie Infield; cousins and friends. Arlene was the beloved sister of the late Debby Pollack; aunt of the late Michael Nisenbaum. Services were held at Star of David Chapel in Sunrise, Fla.
