Huge Sale For its last flea market, the Oak Park JCC pulled out all its stored merchandise. I Esther Allweiss Ingber Contributing Writer W ith the closing of the Jewish Community Center in Oak Park coming Aug. 31, the JCC held its last — and largest — flea market Aug. 9-11. As always, the proceeds were donated to JARC, the social services agen- cy in Farmington Hills that helps develop- mentally delayed individuals. Organizer Harriet Gelfond, an art teacher at the Oak Park JCC for more than 46 years, said the larger-than-usual display of merchandise was due to putting out "everything we had stored up in the art room" from previous sales. Her flea markets were always held periodically and usually advertised by word of mouth, giv- ing her regular donors a chance to bring unwanted items to find a new home. "The first year we raised $5" Gelfond said. "The most before this sale was $2,800, two months ago" Some of the longtime helpers at the flea market were Margaret Perinjian of Birmingham, Barbara Rosen of West Bloomfield, and Florence and Bernie Schreier of Beverly Hills.
