ummer romance — there
is nothing like it. For years,
Tamarack Camps has been the
seedling of many budding romances.
In fact, there is a long list of camp love
stories that have resulted in marriage and
even marriage proposals at camp to cap-
ture where it all began.
Tamarack has now experienced its first
Israeli love connection: Eviatar Baksis
from the Detroit's Partnership2Gether
region of Migdal HaEmek in the Central
Galilee and Liraz Cohen from Ra'anana.
How did two Israelis find love at
Tamarack? The journey began in 2002.
Eviatar was a specialty camper (the first
year of the Israeli Camper Program),
returned in 2004 as a TSS camper and
began his career as a staff member in
2011.
After the army in 2009, Liraz wanted
to come to the United States to be a
counselor at a summer camp. Her com-
mander in the army, Shlomit, also from
the partnership region, recommended
Tamarack Camps because her best friend,
Eviatar, went there. Liraz applied through
the Jewish Agency and was matched to
Tamarack Camps.
Eviatar and Liraz meet in
2011 when Eviatar became
head of the Israeli Camper
Program and Liraz was in her
third year as a staff member
in TSS. The two often worked Eviatar Baksis and Liraz Cohen
together and became close
friends. That fall, Eviatar,
