A

t Pasteur Elementary School
in Detroit, you can walk
down the main hallway and
pass a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle,
Mario, Batman and a Pokemon. These
characters, along with many other
famous cartoon personalities, are fea-
tured in one of Summer in the City's
many murals in Detroit. The mural was
hand designed by Thomas Winston
and Gary Jones III, two students
from Detroit's Henry Ford Learning
Academy.
On July 23, NEXTGen Detroit part-
nered with Summer in the City to paint
the mural. More than 40 NEXTGenners
attended the event and added their
own color and flare to the hallways of
Pasteur.
"When I was younger, I would have
been so excited to see my favorite
cartoon characters take over the walls
of my school, and I am really proud
to have contributed to something that
will bring smiles to the faces of so
many children:' said volunteer Ashley
Sakwa.
