"Is this the best possible agreement to keep Iran's nuclear
ambitions in check? While my answer is no, I feel its some-
thing that all sides can live with — a good first step. The
agreement blocks Iran's way to making a nuclear weapon and
dismantles its nuclear program quite a bit. Iran will be placed
under international monitoring, not just by the United States,
and slapped with new sanctions if the deal is violated.
"We'll still need to keep Iran under strict watch because
of its support for terrorist organizations that threaten the

Middle East and a track record of not living up to previous
Ameinu
agreements. Still, something had to be done to contain Iran's

nuclear wishes. To those against the agreement, some with-
Council
out even reading its terms: What are the alternatives? An-
other pointless war in the Middle East? Breaking off contact
with Iran? Israel deciding to bomb the country?
The U.S. needs to keep its eyes open about Iran but not dismiss this new
agreement out of hand. Embracing it is much better than the alternatives."

"If Secretary Kerry's 'best' Iran deal stands, we face a hostile
Iran that will be armed with nuclear ICBMs.
Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey told the Senate
Armed Services Committee on July 7: "Under no circumstances
should we relieve pressure on Iran relative to ballistic missile
capabilities and arms trafficking." Defense Secretary Ashton
Carter told the Committee: ICBMs mean "the capability to fly
from Iran to the United States, and we don't want that." Kerry's
'best deal' abandons these security imperatives; it ends the
Eugene
arms embargo in five years and allows ICBMs in eight years.
Greenstein,
"Indeed, Kerry abandoned all America's 'red lines.' Anywhere/

anytime inspections became restricted inspections on 24 days'

notice. Americans will not participate in inspections. Iran gets

ner' in developing advanced nuclear technology per the agree-

"The 'penalty' for more lying and cheating — Iran's stock-
in-trade — is a sanctions 'snapback.' But this is a practical impossibility. Russia,
China and even some NATO allies already are moving to invest in Iran, buy Iranian
oil and sell Iran advanced military hardware. The deal squanders hard-won coali-
tion leverage for unenforceable 'promises.'
"Congress must act. This is not a partisan issue. If you care about America —
and about Israel, peace and the world of your children and grandchildren — take
action. Tell your senators and representatives to reject this 'best deal.' America
can and must do better. The world's future depends on it."

will be free to weaponize its nuclear capability when the agreement's term
ends. With its brazen hostility to Western interests and its quest for advanced
weaponry, sooner or later that advanced weaponry will likely include nuclear
weapons and the intercontinental ballistic missiles able to carry them to their
targets.
"As Congress begins to evaluate the just-completed agreement, JCRC
urges it to investigate it with a maximum of wisdom and a minimum of parti-
sanship. Meanwhile, our local Jewish community and all Americans can and
should exercise their capacity for civic engagement on this issue. We urge our
fellow citizens to become active participants in the process."
