B'nai B'rith Golf Classic
Presents Scholarships

B'nai B'rith's 33rd Annual Golf Classic
was held June 8 at Tam-O-Shanter
Country Club in West Bloomfield.
Proceeds from the event benefit and
strengthen B'nai B'rith programs, BBYO
and Hillels on college campuses and
Great Lakes Region's College Scholarship
Fund.
Eighty golfers enjoyed a perfect
day, which ended with cocktails, hors
d'oeuvres and an awards banquet. This
year's special raffle was a cruise vacation
for two to the Caribbean, Alaska or a

Disney Cruise, plus $500. Winners were
Rae and Manny Schane.
The highlight was the presentation of
scholarships to four local students enter-
ing college in the fall. They are Madeline
Jacobson, Rebecca McDonald, Shane
Perlin and Kayli Silverstein.
Event co-chairs were David Lubin and
Michael Fishman. MJS Packaging was
the event sponsor once again. Feldman
Chevrolet again provided the hole-in-
one prize and the Sports Gallery pro-
vided sports memorabilia for the silent
and live auctions.

T

here has been a lot of buzz
about Detroit's art scene over
the last few years. Many gal-
leries have opened, and the city has
become a mecca for young artists.
Currently, the "Diego Rivera and Frida
Kahlo in Detroit" exhibition on display
at the Detroit Institute of Arts has
received worldwide acclaim.
The archives of the Jewish News
provide plenty of evidence that Jewish
women have long played a role in
Detroit's art scene.
Consider Marsha Miro. An art his-
torian for many years, Miro was the
art critic for the Detroit Free Press.
She also contributed to such events
as DLECTRICITY, AutoGlow! and Art
Detroit Now, and was a founding direc-
tor of the Museum of Contemporary
Art Detroit (MOCAD).
