BECKY HURVITZ I SPECIAL TO THE JEWISH NEWS N EXTGen Detroit hosted its third annual Blue & White Night on Thursday, June 26, under the stars at the Community House in Birmingham. More than 240 young adults in their blue-and- white best came out to celebrate Israel. The cost of admission was a gift to the Federation of Metropolitan Detroit's Annual Campaign, and event-goers raised nearly $4,000 in just one night. "To provide our guests with information about how their gift to Federation is put to use in Israel, we incorporated a series of creative elements throughout the event," said Sara Aronovitz, NEXTGen Detroit's lead staffer for the event. "It was really important to us to talk about Birthright, our Israeli Camper Program and the Partnership2Gether 36 region in addition to the programs Federation supports through working with JAFI, ORT and the JDC." Chef Cari Kosher Catering offered an authentic Israeli menu that included shakshuka, sabich, sachlav and everyone's favorite — falafel. Local artists gave attendees beautiful henna tattoos. And the DJ played a mix of traditional and Israeli dance music that kept all on their feet through the night. "Blue & White has become a summer tradition, and now in its third year, it's an event people know about and look forward to," said event co-chair Michael Chosid. "My co-chair, Melissa Gordon, myself, and the entire Blue & White event committee and staff focused on turning up the authenticity level this year to really make it feel like we brought Israel to Detroit." ❑ 41k Rachel Loebl and Jonathan Serman, both of Berkley, and David and Rebecca Moses of Huntington Woods Jason and Lyndsay Ball, and Jeff !merman, all of Birmingham NEXTGen President Steve Migliore of West Bloomfield and Julie Marx of Bloomfield Hills Jason Hosking of Harrison Township, Leann Lugashi of West Bloomfield and Emily Kahn of Detroit Josh Grollman and Veronica Kopaygorodsky, both of Southfield, and Traci Gordon and Michael Baum, both of Royal Oak Abi Liepshutz of Ferndale, Brittany Karson and Anna Graham, both of Royal Oak, and Nikki Horn of West Bloomfield Alyssa Trotsky of Berkley, Steve Hurvitz of Huntington Woods and Lauren Sofen of Birmingham July 9 • 2015
