Jewish Song Cycle Looks At
Biblical And Modern Women
An innovative art-rock band will be
performing its unique blend of ancient
stories with original, modern musical
interpretations at the N'Namdi Center for
Contemporary Art, 52 E. Forest Ave. The
show will be at 8 p.m., Thursday, June 25.
"Girls in Trouble" is the collaborative
effort of Alicia Jo Rabins and her bassist,
now her husband, Aaron Hartman, along
with other musicians. It is a song cycle that
explores the complex stories of biblical
women, including Miriam, Hannah and
Tamar, relating them to the ongoing strug-
gles and issues in Rabin's own life.
Advance tickets may be purchased online
for $10, or $5 for students (show ID at the
door) https://girlsintroubledetroit.yapsody.
com. Tickets may also be purchased at the
door for $12, or $6 for students with ID.

other's Day is just around the
corner. So, what present are
you going to get Dad this year?
Is he interested in high-tech gadgets? If
so, then there are a number of excellent
choices with the latest innovations - if
it were 1986!
Reviewing the advertisements in the
JN for 1986, one sees the hottest items
on the market. You could get Dad an
Atari game set and play Space Invaders
with him.
Or maybe, he likes music? So, then,
buy him a few tapes for his portable
cassette deck (assuming he has given up
his 8-Track tape player).
Maybe Dad is one of the growing
number of personal computer users?
You could get him a new IBM PC with
an outstanding 30-megabyte hard drive,
the speediest machine available for sale.
Mobile phones were still just around
the corner, but in the June 6, 1986,
issue of the JN, we found the perfect

Jews And Muslims Join
To Feed The Hungry
The fight against hunger is the focus of an
initiative that encompasses the Muslim holi-
day of Ramadan (June 18 to mid-July) and
the Jewish High Holy Days (Sept. 14-23).
A new social action and cultural exchange
group, the Greater Detroit Muslim-Jewish
Solidarity Council, is organizing this drive to
support the efforts of Zaman International's
annual Ramadan Drive to Feed the Hungry,
helping to take care of marginalized women
and children in Southeastern Michigan.
Later, in September, it will join the Jewish
community efforts during the High Holidays
to bring food to Yad Ezra and area syna-
gogues for distribution to the needy.
During these times of fasting, both Jewish
and Muslim worshippers are led to think
of those who are needy and who regularly

suffer from hunger and poverty; it becomes
part of the self-improvement actions taken
in accordance with Divine commandments
at these times especially to help feed and
support the needy in our midst.
Non-perishable food items that have no
meat or meat products in them (kosher is
preferred) can be dropped off at either of
two locations until July 5. Call in advance to
make sure someone is at these sites:
• Detroit Interfaith Outreach Network
office, 17520 W 12 Mile, Suite 205,
Southfield, (248) 556-6316
• Jewish Community Relations Council,
Max Fisher Jewish Federation Building,
6735 Telegraph, Suite 140, Bloomfield
Township, (248) 642-4260 or 642-5393.
