IT HAD RAINED for days and the
prognosis was for more ... With basements
flooding and cars being stuck.
But "weathercaster" David Blatt and ace
volunteer wife, Hedy, stuck to their guns that
the day would be beautiful with just a small
breeze.
And so the Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation's executive director and his super
volunteer frau were again thankfully correct
for the 25th anniversary Hank Greenberg
Memorial Golf Invitational at Franklin Hills
Country Club.
Greenberg honoree, Hall of Fame's Joe
Morgan, was ill and couldn't show up for
another successful outdoor barbecue event
by the MJSF ... Former Detroit Tiger out-
fielder Willie Horton and former Tiger
pitcher Dave Rozema answered questions
from the floor and sports panel emcee Mike
"Stoney" Stone.
Many were there to see Milt and Eunice
Ring receive the Barry Bremen Memorial
Inspiration Award ... for magnificent lives
of raising charitable dollars ... How about
$15 million raised in the 17 years since they
formed the Karmanos Partners group to
fight cancer, as does the Greenberg event?
Ironic that years ago, Barry Bremen and
partner Glen Harvath rented offices from
Milt, who still owns the Redford Office
Center on Five Mile.
Nice seeing folks like Shirley Foon
Wiss, Seymour Brode and Myron "Mynie"
Milgrom receive recognition with MJSF
president Stuart Raider, David Blatt, Nick
Karmanos and Sari Cicurel, for their fine
organizational work ... Shirley is the wife of
the late Al Foon, founder with Seymour and
Myron among others who started the origi-
nal Michigan Jewish Sports Hall of Fame,
now called the Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation ... About 30 volunteers made
sure the 25th Greenberg anniversary was
another successful outdoor-barbecue affair.
A NEW DELI IS expected to open soon
in the Simsbury Plaza that houses Busch's
Fresh Food Market and Sposita's Ristorante,
the latter two doors away, on 14 Mile and
Farmington Road, West Bloomfield ... To
my knowledge, there has never been a deli
there, although up Farmington Road at
Maple was Bagel Deli carryout, Hello Deli
and then, 855 Deli.

When the waitperson arrives, the gent
orders elephant on rye. The server calmly
writes down his order and walks into the
kitchen, where all hell breaks loose.
The restaurant owner storms out of the
kitchen, runs up to the customer's table,
slaps five $100 bills down and says, "You got
me this time, buddy, but I want you to know
that's the first time in 15 years we've been
out of rye bread!"
CONGRATS ... To Sherry Cantor on her

birthday.
